About Leon Franks:
Born in Edmonton, Canada on April 28, 1914. Franks studied in Paris at Academie Julian and Grande Chaumiere. He painted portraits and scenery for Vancouver theaters before settling in Los Angeles about 1936. There he further studied with Fechin, Chamberlin, Will Foster, at Chouinard's and the Art Center while doing titles and designing for the movie industry. He has resided in Laguna Beach, California since coming to the U.S. He has been a painter, teacher and writer. Exhibited: Arizona State Fair, 1947; P&S Los Angeles, 1948; Calif. Artists, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1953, 1958, 1961; Calif. AC, 1954, 1961; Valley Art Gld., 1955-59, 1961; Friday Morning Club, 1957, 1959; Calif.
